About the Journal

Focusing on the 3rd–8th centuries CE—a period of profound political and cultural transformation—the CoH explores diverse topics, from the transition of the Roman rule to the emergence of barbarian kingdoms, from the urban and economic changes to the evolution of cultural and religious practices.
By publishing articles primarily in English, but also in French, Italian, German, and Spanish, the CoH aims to serve as a platform for intellectual and scientific exchange, while showcasing research that is often inaccessible to the broader international academic community. Through a rigorous and inclusive editorial approach, the journal strives to advance understanding of a region and period too often regarded as marginal in European history.
The journal seeks to become a key reference for researchers, educators, students, and enthusiasts of history and archaeology by offering a forum for innovative scholarship. It particularly encourages interdisciplinary research and fresh perspectives, whether through case studies, regional syntheses, or cross-disciplinary thematic analyses. Moreover, the CoH welcomes contributions from early-career researchers, providing them with an opportunity to share their work with an international academic audience.
